چکیده

Increased levels of electrification of home appliances, heating and transportation are bringing new challenges for the smart grid, as energy supply sources need to be managed more efficiently. In order to minimize production costs, reduce the impact on the environment, and optimize electricity pricing, producers need to be able to accurately estimate their customers’ demand. As a result, forecasting electricity usage plays an important role in smart grids since it enables matching supply with demand, and thus minimize energy waste. Forecasting is becoming increasingly important in very small-scale power networks, also known as microgrids, as these systems should be able to operate autonomously, in islanded mode. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the efficiency of several forecasting methods in such very small networks. We evaluate artificial neural networks (ANN), wavelet neural networks (WNN), autoregressive moving-average (ARMA), multi-regression (MR) and autoregressive multi-regression (ARMR) on an aggregate of 30 houses, which emulates the demand of a rural isolated microgrid. Finally, we empirically show that for this problem ANN is the most efficient technique for predicting the following day’s demand.

Using the hybrid Taguchi experimental design method – TOPSIS to identify the most suitable artificial neural networks used in energy forecasting

The use of artificial neural networks (ANN) in forecasting has many applications. Appropriate design of ANN parameters enhances the performance and accuracy of neural network models.  Most studies use a trial and error approach in setting the value of ANN parameters. Other methods used to determine the best structure of a neural network only use a single evaluation criterion to determine the ap...

Forecasting of rainfall using different input selection methods on climate signals for neural network inputs

Long-term prediction of precipitation in planning and managing water resources, especially in arid and semi-arid countries such as Iran, has a great importance. In this paper, a method for predicting long-term precipitation using weather signals and artificial neural networks is presented. For this purpose, climatic data (large-scale signals) and meteorological data (local precipitation and tem...

Different Methods of Long-Term Electric Load Demand Forecasting a Comprehensive Review

Long-term demand forecasting presents the first step in planning and developing future generation, transmission and distribution facilities. One of the primary tasks of an electric utility accurately predicts load demand requirements at all times, especially for long-term. Based on the outcome of such forecasts, utilities coordinate their resources to meet the forecasted demand using a least-co...
